Meet River
River Light
aka Dr. Elizabeth Meacham
River Light, aka Dr. Elizabeth Meacham, has spent decades in deep relationship with the Earth and the many beings and spirits who make up the weaving of our planetary and cosmic family.
She is a healer of people and the land, an internationally recognized and award-winning teacher, and author of Earth Spirit Dreaming: Shamanic Ecotherapy Practices (Findhorn Press/Inner Traditions 2020, and in German: Das Erdseele-Träumen, Neue Erde 2023). She teaches nationally and internationally through ceremonies, workshops, retreats, advanced training courses, and one-on-one mentoring.
Dr. Meacham received her PhD in Philosophy, Cosmology, and Consciousness from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and her MA in Philosophy from Cleveland State University (summa cum laude). She is the founder and co-director of the Lake Erie Institute for Holistic Environmental Education, based in Cleveland, Ohio.
Since 1995, Dr. Meacham has engaged in extensive scholarship, teaching and publishing in visionary environmental thought and nature-based spirituality. She teaches and publishes in the areas of spiritual ecology, ecopsychology, environmental philosophy and earth-based spiritual practices. From 2010 to 2016, she taught in the Departments of Philosophy and Religious Studies at Ursuline College, in Pepper Pike, OH. Her courses included environmental philosophy, ecojustice, ecopsychology, bioethics, and topics in sustainability.
She has decades of experience facilitating, teaching, mentoring and training teachers and facilitators in colleges and universities, as well as through the 10 to 18-month courses and training programs that she creates and leads, often incorporating world-class national and international faculty.
She maintains an intensive Earth and Spirit-connected spiritual practice that is the central source of information and guidance in all of her work. She is trained in the Earth Spirit healing arts lineage of Damaris Chrystal, as well as multiple energy healing modalities from her time learning with Ursuline Sr. Ann Winters and Nancy Herrick.
